The history of the Ariston brand is mostly about mergers and acquisitions, which the company did starting in the 1990s. Acquisitions were necessary to solidly enter new markets without competition with local hot water heater brands but rather using their business networks to establish the work of Ariston in new countries and regions as effectively as possible. That’s why today Ariston owns a dozen brands in Asia, Europe, and Africa. It produces not only water heaters working on various types of fuel but also a range of other appliances.
The name "Ariston" is a combination of the letters ‘Arist’ + ‘on’ from the first and family names of its founder Aristide Merloni, who started the company in Italy in 1930 originally to produce scales. Electric water heaters were started to be produced only after 30 years and this business direction made the company enter a list of leaders in the Italian water heater sector in just 10 years. The company was so successful selling high-quality hot water heaters that it started global expansion soon after, entering other areas of business in terms of kinds of manufactured appliances and geographical directions.
